Future Earth Romania-Research for Global Sustainability

The National Committee for Future Earth in Romania has been established in 2015 through the decision of the Romanian Academy's Presidential Bureau in 4.06.2015.
Rooted in the activities of the former National Committee for Global Environmental Change of the Romanian Academy (1991-2015), which was founded by acad. Liviu Constantinescu, Future Earth Romania has evolved in accordance with the International Council Science's international platform for sustainable development, Future Earth - Research for Global Sustainability (https://futureearth.org/).

The structure of Future Earth Romania: 13 members, including scientists in earth sciences (i.e. geography, agriculture and forest science, biology and geophysics), economy and social sciences, as well as stakeholders from the Environment and energy Ministries and national administrations/agencies (i.e. Meteorology, and Remote Sensing). The secretariat activities of the committee are covered by 2 scientific researchers.

Main tasks:
1) Organization of scientific events in collaboration with different academic institutions/universities;
2) Facilitating connections and discussions with national and local area decision makers and stakeholders;
3) Organization of the annual workshop for master and doctoral students on environment and sustainable development topics; likewise, every two years it is the co-organizer of the international summer school for PhD students and young researchers on issues related to environmental risks and climate change in the mountain areas;
4) Online dissemination of a newsletter to the members (in Romanian), including information regarding Future Earth Programme (e.g. core projects actions, Knowledge Action Networks-KANs) and summaries of the National Committee's activities.
